What are these lessons?
Horn Section Lessons are designed for secondary school trumpet, trombone, and alto sax players who want to experience what it’s really like to play as part of a tight, confident horn section. These are small-group sessions (maximum six students, with no more than two per instrument) that strike a balance between support and responsibility — students feel safe, but they’re expected to hold their own musical part.
In each weekly session, students play real pop, rock, and soul music, developing essential ensemble skills like listening, timing, tuning, and blend. These lessons are not a replacement for private tuition, but a powerful complement to it, giving young musicians the chance to apply what they’re learning in a real-world band-style setting. Throughout the year, students also get access to exciting musical opportunities, including the chance to record in a professional studio.
Horn Section Lessons are ideal for players around Grade 2 and above who want more confidence playing with others — and simply want more chances to actually play their instrument.
The lessons take place on Saturday mornings at Captain Tom’s Rehearsal Studio and Recording Studio on Ann Street, right in the centre of Aberdeen City - a professional rehearsal space that gives students an authentic band-style environment to learn and play in.

Book a 45 minute trial through the forms on this website. Parents are encouraged to sit in on the trial lesson to meet the tutor. If you decide to continue, you will pay for the remaining lessons in that month.

Your weekly lesson plus all of the events throughout the year, including Jam Sessions, Band Jams, and Live Recording Sessions—no extra fees.

Yes - the membership keeps things simple: one flat monthly price (Aug–June) that balances lessons and included events across the year. We pause weekly lessons during event weeks and for the October, Christmas, and Easter holidays (in line with Aberdeen City Schools). July is a holiday month with no charge. If the tutor ever needs to cancel a lesson, the next invoice will be reduced to reflect the missed session.

Lessons run August–June (46 teaching weeks). We pause weekly lessons during event weeks, and we’re off for the October, Christmas and Easter holidays in line with Aberdeen City Schools. July is a holiday month with no charge.

Yes—pay only for the remaining lessons that month at a simple weekly rate, then switch to standard monthly billing from the 1st of the next month.

Life happens! Your membership keeps things simple: one flat monthly price covering lessons and events. If you miss a week, we don’t reschedule or credit, but we’ll pick up right where we left off at your next lesson. If a tutor ever has to cancel, the price of one week of the membership will be deducted from the next invoice.
