Meet your tutor: Liam
Hi, I’m Liam. I started Upbeat to make learning music feel natural and enjoyable. With a BA (Hons) in Music Education (University of Aberdeen) and years of tutoring, I use a “Play Over Practise” approach: we make music first, then grow technique and theory in small, clear steps. You’ll play with a beat, learn songs you love, and -when you’re ready - join band jams and studio sessions to build real confidence.

Full-band rehearsals in a professional rehearsal studio - loud, supportive, and seriously motivating.
Band Jams give students the chance to play music in a real band with other musicians without the added pressure of a live audience. The sessions are relaxed and we work through intros, endings, and transitions so songs feel tight. Students learn how to communicate like a band and leave buzzing.

Step into York Street Studio and record a live take—keep the video, audio, and photos.
Our Studio Live Sessions give students the chance to perform in a professional recording studio. You’ll learn how a real session runs, record a live take. Once it’s been professionally mixed, mastered, and edited together you get to keep a performance video, the mixed audio file, and photos of the day—all included in membership.

Low-pressure meet-ups where we jam to real grooves and turn ideas into music.
Our Jam Sessions are relaxed, friendly get-togethers where students plug in and play along with other musicians. We focus on timing, feel, and listening—so even beginners leave sounding musical. It’s the perfect place to try a new riff, improvise a little, and build confidence.

Book a 30 minute trial through the forms on this website. Parents are encouraged to sit in on the trial lesson to meet the tutor. We will have a chat about your favourite music, the songs you’re excited to play first, and the kind of guitarist you want to be. We will then immediately get you playing the guitar so that you have something to play at home - even if you decide not to continue taking lessons.

Lessons start at age 6, with no upper limit—it’s never too late.

Your weekly lesson plus all of the events throughout the year, including Jam Sessions, Band Jams, and Live Recording Sessions—no extra fees.

Yes - the membership keeps things simple: one flat monthly price (Aug–June) that balances lessons and included events across the year. We pause weekly lessons during event weeks and for the October, Christmas, and Easter holidays (in line with Aberdeen City Schools). July is a holiday month with no charge. If the tutor ever needs to cancel a lesson, the next invoice will be reduced to reflect the missed session.

Yes—pay only for the remaining lessons that month at a simple weekly rate, then switch to standard monthly billing from the 1st of the next month.

Absolutely. I can share photos/videos privately with your family and won’t post anything without permission.

Life happens! Your membership keeps things simple: one flat monthly price covering lessons and events. If you miss a week, we don’t reschedule or credit, but we’ll pick up right where we left off at your next lesson. If a tutor ever has to cancel, the price of one week of the membership will be deducted from the next invoice.
